Ashley Shonibare, LMSW(She/Her)

My first experience with therapy was as a child in family therapy. While I cannot articulate what the specific goals or interventions were, I do remember the therapist took their time in meeting with each family member to better understand us. To be seen and feel valued, as an individual and within the dynamics of a family unit, is crucial to doing the work that comes with therapy. While there are great opportunities to change, there is also a level of discomfort in navigating the space between where we are and where we want to be.

As a therapist, I see my role as creating a space that feels safe enough to identify and process the parts of our experiences that have shaped us. I prefer a collaborative approach that incorporates humor, transparency, authentic reflection and consideration of systemic and cultural influences.

I utilize a variety of approaches in my work such as Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Cognitive behavioral therapy for psychosis (CBT-p), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

In addition to providing therapy, I am also a clinical supervisor for therapists at Blooming Minds Therapy.
